The first documented use of spices was in Assyrian myths dated back to 3000 BCE, yet it is commonly believed that we have been using spices since we have been cooking over fire. No one can prove this, but we do have evidence that during the Neolithic period (9500 BCE) spices were used. Our evidence is mustard seeds and other spices associated with burials. So, we can prove we have been using spices since 9500 BCE, but we suspect they may have been used at a Homo Erectus barbeque.
