The first ever hybrid is credited to Porsche for a car they developed over 100 years ago. The car had in-wheel electric motors and an on board gas engine to recharge the batteries. It was not popular at the time because gas was so cheap, so Porsche discontinued it. In more modern times, the 1999 Honda Insight is considered the first hybrid line.
