The symbolism of the rose for love is one that dates back to ancient Greek and Roman tropes. In classical poetry and myth the rose was identified with Aphrodite and Venus, the Greek and Roman goddesses of love. In a Greek poem called “Antemon,” Aphrodite gives roses to her son Eros.
