When did we start caring about having a white Christmas?

    In 1942!  Irving Berlin combined American sentiments about the holiday together into his song “White Christmas,” which Bing Crosby recorded and was, and remains, an international classic hit.  People may have appreciated snow on Christmas before the song was released, but the song made the idea of a white Christmas a cultural touchstone.
