Worldwide demand skyrocketed in the 1970’s, mostly in Japan as sushi, and have continued to be a prized food for people all over the world. They are currently an endangered species, but that isn’t stopping other countries from depleting the fish stocks. It’s always important to research what type of fish you’re buying at the store, and to try and eat only fish caught locally. Also, buy fish that are caught or raised using environmentally-friendly methods.
