I’m assuming you are talking about the packing peanuts that dissolve in water? I’ve attached a link to it’s patent. It’s made out of corn grit and a binding agent. The patent was filed in 1991 by Starcevich, Bradley K. As for styrofoam itself, it was found in 2006 that a certain bacteria can actually break it down, therefore making a biodegradable plastic.
