When did we go away from using septic tanks?

Septic tanks are still widely used in North America today.  About a quarter of the population of North America still relies on them.  As far as when we went away from them, however, we must focus on when modern sewage systems were popularized.  This took place as a result of the industrial revolution in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

    Hope this helps!
