Nature has always been recycling water, so comparatively we haven’t been doing it for very long. The first water reclamation plant was constructed in Golden Gate Park in 1932. However, Californians had been using untreated sewage for irrigation purposes since 1889, since the sewage water had more nutrients and made for better soil production.
