When did we first get excited about energy efficiency?

I don’t know. I suppose everyone got excited at different points. My mom always nagged me to recycle and not waste water. She also nagged me to not leave lights on when I was in the room but it hardly ‘excited’ me. I think “An Inconvenient Truth” was a tipping point for most people and now living green is very much in vogue. Not only is it fashionable but NECESSARY because we’re realizing the toll it’s beginning to take. We’re starting to realize the consequences of waste and the risk of becoming dependent on non-renewable resources.
