When did we come up with GPS?

    A man named Ivan Getting and company the Raytheon Corporation announced the initial idea for GPS in 1951. By 1960 their start to GPS technology was the most advanced in the world of its kind. However, it would be another 33 years before GPS as we know if today was fully realized. The technology was a gradual process of trial, error, and discoveries but the defining success was in 1993 as there were 24 GPS satellites in orbit. A detailed timeline is available via this link:
