Switzerland has great recycling efforts in place, with 80% of their plastics being recycled, which is much higher than the European average of 20 to 40%. However, the Swiss have a huge financial incentive to recycle also, because they are charged to throw out their trash, however, recycling is free.
The Swiss have always been fixated on their country’s natural beauty — they’ve always been eco conscious. The government introduced financial incentives for recycling in the early 1990s, which they have expanded on since, creating an addition collective pride in being the cleanest nation in the world.
