When did ivory become illegal to buy and trade?

It is not technically illegal to buy or trade Ivory, but it is extremely heavily regulated and fined. This has been going on since 1973, and mainly deals with the ivory that comes from endangered species, which is what makes it illegal to get new ivory form African Elephants and similar animals. However, Ivory from estate sales and other grandfathers sources can be acquired for a price, legally.

    I hope this helped!
