In 2003 National Geographic published an article about archaeological finds that confirmed that people first inhabited Australia about 50,000 years ago.  This was proven by the discovery of the world’s first cremation, which scientists believe took place about 40,000 years ago.  After doing more research and exploration, scientists learned about the first peoples in Australia and were able to confirm the approximate time that they first inhabited Australia.
