The best time to water your lawn is early in the morning. Less evaporation will take place and the dew will contribute to overall moisture. So, get out there before 6!
Water your lawn in the early morning or early evening. These are not peak water usage times (most businesses are closed) and the temperature is usually cooler so the grass will absorb the water better.
Consider putting out basins to collect rain water and then using this to water your lawn and plants. It is free so it reduces your water bill and helps to conserve water.
