You should get everything you will need set up before the beginning of spring. Then in the early spring obtain bees to move into your new set up. There are many books and websites out there that guide new bee keepers through the first year. Also there are usually local bee keeping clubs that have many experienced people with a lot of knowledge about the specific circumstances of your local area.
You should get your bees in the springtime, but you’ll need to get ready for them before this. You’ll need to get a hive & all the beekeeping equipment (especially a beekeeping suit, smoker, hive tool & bee feeder). It’s definitely a good idea to join a local beekeeping association for help & support, and read up as much as possible before you get your bees – there’s a lot to learn!
