When and where was the pineapple domesticated?

    The natives of southern Brazil and Paraguay spread the pineapple throughout South America where it eventually reached the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus discovered this fruit in the Indies and brought it back with him to Europe. The Spanish then spread it to the Philippines, Hawaii, Zimbabwe and Guam. The first commercial pineapple plantation was made in Hawaii in 1886. Exports of canned pineapples began in Hawaii in 1892. Large scale pineapple cultivation by U.S. companies began in the early 1900s on Hawaii.
