According to this article, (http://archaeology.about.com/od/domestications/g/barley.htm) “Recent investigations suggest that genetic evidence exists for at least two separate domestication events, one in the Fertile Crescent and a second in central Asia some 1500-3000 kilometers east.” The Fertile Crescent domestication seems to have occurred about 8500 B.C., and the central Asian domestication about 7000 B.C.
