Most people clean their ears using Q-tips. These are not meant to enter the ear cavity although some may use them that way because it can cause other issues for your ears. This can be done daily and is most affective right after a shower, bath, or swim. Water loosens the wax inside the ear and should wash it out as the water drains, but do not pour water into your ears. If you purchase Q-tips there are instructions for their proper usage on the packaging of every product with detailed diagrams and drawings.
Technically you should use a damp washrag to clean your ears out. Q-tips can be harmful and puncture the ear drums. Sometimes Q-tips can push earwax further into the ear!
