What’s the Feejee Mermaid?

The Feejee Mermaid isn’t an actual mermaid, nor is it an animal of any sort. It’s actually a combination of dead animals. It’s a traditional art form of the East Indies and Japan, one which includes sewing together the lower bodies of fish with the upper bodies of apes (pictures in both links below). They’re often seen in sideshows, and the most famous display of a Feejee Mermaid was in PT Barnum’s American Museum. Generally, “Feejee Mermaid” is the name for fake mermaids all over the world.
