What’s the difference between redwood and sequoia trees?

Both are members of the same family, the Cupressaceae (Cypress) family. On average Coastal Redwoods are taller than Giant Sequoia trees, but the Sequoia trees live longer. Giant Sequoias have much thicker bark than redwoods, and reproduce by seed only, whereas redwoods can reproduce by root sprouts as well as by seeds. They also grow in different climates, Giant Sequoias are native to California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, and Coastal Redwoods are along California’s North Coast.
