Pigs are a genus (specifically, a genus of even-toed ungulates that are part of the Suidae family). When the name “hog” is used, it most commonly refers to the domestic pig, Sus domestica, but technically refers to many different species of the pig genus including the wild boar.

Essentially the term is interchangeable – but hog does have a wider scope of meaning as it includes non-domesticated animals as well such as the wild boar.
