Geothermal power is any power that is extracted from heat energy within the earth. It orginated from the formation of the planet, the decay of radioactive materias, and from heat energy from the sun absorbed by the surface of the earth. Geothermal power has been used for thousands of years and is now used to generate electricity. In 2007, geothermal electricity accounted for about 3% of international electricity use. While it is very cost effective and environmentally friendly, it is typically limited to areas where tectonic plates meet.
Geothermal energy is energy extracted from the Earth. It remains from Earth’s formation, and occurs due to radiation of minerals or stored sunlight that was absorbed. Recent technology has allowed the use of geothermal energy to spread beyond tectonic plate boundaries.
