What year did we start giving tax breaks for solar panels?

According to records the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was the first law to give tax breaks to people (individuals) who choose renewable sources of energy over non-renewable ones. As a result homeowners who buy solar panels can receive up to 30% tax credit of their investment.

The 2008 Emergency Economic Stabilization Act further extends the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and adds more funds for such projects.
