What would our world be without cars?

With technology the way it is today, simply removing cars would be bad and good at the same time. The bad part about it would be that since cars are so much a part of our culture and society, a whole manner changes would have to be instituted regarding schedules, deliveries, etc., in addition removing certain individuality from people. Some people identify themselves with their cars as their way of expressing their freedoms, which would be a hard thing to grasp in America. On the plus side, things like traffic, heavy air pollution, and car-related crimes would seemingly go way down. I do not think getting rid of all the cars in the world would make the world a better place, but changing how and what they run on could.
