What would New York look like without cars?

The New York Sun article that I have cited presents some interesting consequences of a car-free New York. The article covers Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s decision to close a five-mile stretch of Manhattan road for three days in August 2008. Here were some proposed repercussions of that move.

    1) Less traffic for businesses
    2) Removal of the taxi industry
    3) Public activities (like yoga) filling that open space

As a artistic view, NYC without any vehicles would look amazing. The city would appear calm. But as far as environmentally, no cars in NYC would heavily cut down on pollution.
