Compost needs a bunch of active microorganisms. Worms help, too. These should find their way into your compost pile/bin on their own. Maintaining the proper level of moisture is important, too. You can get your compost to go faster by breaking up the materials you add to it into smaller pieces. This will give the microorganisms more surface area to latch onto and munch on.
