What would happen to oil if we could capture and harness all of the methane that comes from cows?

There are currently methods for capturing methane from landfills and using the methane combined with natural gas or made into electricity through a chemical reaction.  To change how we use oil however, we would have to come up wiht a technology to run cars off methane gasses, which might not be too likely since methane has the potential to explode.  Methane from cows does not have the potential to be converted to the octane fuel that is refined from crude oil, so we would need new technology or still need oil.
