What would happen to the energy if we didn’t have geothermal plants to convert it to electricity?

If the geothermal wells weren’t tapped for energy, then the heat they produced would escape into the atmosphere. That’s assuming they source of heat was near enough to the surface to not need significant depths to produce the amounts of heat to produce power. If geothermal wells had to be dug to bring significant heat to power the generator then nothing would happen if the plants weren’t there to tap into the natural power-source.
