What would happen if we didn’t have an ozone layer?

The ozone layer absorbs 97% of harmful ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays. This kind of light is harmful to life, as anyone who has ever had a sunburn could tell you. If this light were to freely penetrate earth’s atmosphere, the planet would be completely unable to sustain life. The ozone layer is crucial for the survival of all plants and animals on Earth, which is why it must be protected.
