What would happen if there were no sunlight?

Very bad things. Without sunlight, life on earth would grind to a halt. Sunlight keeps the earth at its current temperature by providing heat in the form of radiation. Without the sun, climate on earth would not be able to support life. Sunlight also provides energy for photosynthesis in plants. Without sunlight, plants would have no food, which would hold serious repercussions for the organisms higher up on the food chain, including you and I.
