What would happen if all the mosquitoes in the world were gone?

Even though mosquitoes are usually seen as pests, the fact is that these insects have an important role to play in natural ecosystems. Larval mosquitoes live underwater, and provide food for fish and many other aquatic animals. Once they become adults, mosquitoes are an important food source for many bats and birds. Without mosquitoes, birds like swallows would likely be unable to survive. So although they seem like a nuisance, mosquitoes really are important to our world.
