A green funeral would entail:
-NO embalming, which contains terrible volatile chemicals
-a biodegradable casket- most conventional caskets actually prevent decompostion. American caskets require some 30 million board feet every year, according to National Geographic. Wicker or cardboard is more sustainable.
-NO cremation, which pollutes the air and the water. Except perhaps the new, ash-infused man-made reefs being used to help fish populations… see below
-Trees, not headstones
For green funeral… body liquefaction is the best way… green alternative to cremation and works by dissolving the body in heated alkaline water.
