Bottled water is a large industry supplying many jobs and business workers. Americans, for example, consume 8.6 billion gallons of bottled water annually. One issue which arises frequently in opposition to regulating or closing businesses is how such a move would affect the economy and how many jobs would be lost. In America another fear is that a government intervention in the free market would be a breach of the ideals of capitalism in which the market decides. These two issues are the most frequently raised in big business interventions such as the bottled water issue because some conservatives believe that the American government should never intervene in the process of capitalism, even in times of crisis such as the Global Warming troubles of today and tomorrow.
