Stadiums, they take up a lot of space, especially if you include the parking lot, maybe even a square mile. That is a large area of land to be bulldozed and turned into a stadium. Also, it takes a lot of water to maintain a sport field, around 20,000 liters a day. If the stadium uses AstroTurf, or is a sustainable stadium like the one linked, then this problem is mitigated.
Basically, the major drawbacks are natural land being converted into a huge stadium, or even just a small highschool football field, and the major waste of water.
