As of 2009, the worst SUV for the environment was the Hummer H2 FFV. An enormous hulk of a car, its “green index” number is 16 (out of 100!) This index is based heavily on emissions. Fortunately, Hummers are obly being produced in limited numbers these days, as less people are interested in buying gas-guzzlers with gas prices being so high.
Now that the Hummer has gone out of mainstream production, it position as the worst climate offender in has been replaced in 2010 by the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG, which gets an abhorrent 11mpg in the city and fifteen on the highway, with a carbon footprint of 15.5 tons a year. Although it has a decent Air pollution score outside the carbon, the other two factors more than make up for any sort of bonus it might have garnered from that.
I hope this helps!
