There are so many pesticides used nowadays and though each one is different, they can all be grouped in certain groups based on their properties and/or functions. For example, some are more potent than others, some poison the system for longer periods of time, some have more severe side effects than others. There are also pesticides that are ranked based on their hazard levels. 1a is worse than 1b, and so on. Examples of class 1 pesticides that were removed from the market include: “…methyl and ethyl parathion, monocrothophos, oxydemeton-methyl, azinphos-methyl, amitraz and trichlorphon” (CBG 2010).
