The worst part of offshore drilling is easily the damage it does to the environment. Building the drills causes a lot of damage to the area by breaking into the rocks. Moreover, this causes a semi-radioactive sludge to be released as drilling begins. In addition to the damage inflicted during the initial set-up, accidents with the rig can happen, causing oil spills that are very harmful for the marine life that lives near the rig.
I think the worst thing about offshore drilling is many people don’t understand exactly what goes into it. They think a company can just go in tomorrow and gas will be cheaper by next week. They don’t realize that it could get years to get the whole process going, and even with that-oil is not unlimited.
