What is the worst non CO2 pollutant?

It’s hard to pick just one. Both mercury and lead are pretty horrible and cause severe brain damage or death, they are far worse than CO2. In general, metal smelting and battery recycling tend to produce the most highly toxic chemical outputs. The “Russian industrial city of Norilsk, which houses the world’s largest heavy metals smelting complex [emits] more than 4 million tons of cadmium, copper, lead, nickel, arsenic, selenium and zinc emissions annually”. Russia is the home of the three most polluted places in the world, partially due to industrial outputs such as those at the Norilsk plant.
