    The deadliest type of natural disasters to hit the Midwest United States is the tornado. Tornados have caused numerous deaths and unimaginable destruction in these states. According to City.Data.com, which ranks the 50 states by tornado deaths, Ohio and Arkansas rank third and fifth respectively. This data only includes fatalities from 1975 until 2007. May of 2011 marked the day of the deadliest tornado in United States since 1947 and the “ninth-deadliest of all time”. This occurred in the Midwest state of Missouri and ripped through the city of Joplin. It left 116 people dead in its wake and left the whole city in shambles.
