The world’s most polluted city, Linfen, China, got that way largely through coal mining. the entire city is essentially constantly under a curtain of billowing fog, which makes it difficult to breathe and quite hard to see. The exhaust from the coal mines in Linfen and other Chinese cities is bad enough that it can even reach across the Pacific Ocean and pollute the air of the United States West Coast.
