They are all horrible in their own way, but two of the worst are Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and Sulfur Dioxide. HFCs are found in most refrigeration units, as a “green” alternative to the Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) that were banned due to their effect on the O-Zone layer. Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a way to measure the impact of a greenhouse gas, CO2 has a GWP of one and is the base of comparison. HFCs have a GWP of 53 to 15,000.
Sulfur Dioxide combines with water to form acid rain, this has let to damage of man made structures as well as the acidification of the oceans. Over time the higher amounts of acid could cause the oceans to become dead, this would have major implications for the world and for humanity.
