Many foods are notoriously un-green, including veal and caviar. But the worst foods for the environment may actually be anything prepackaged or “snack-size.” Packaging makes up millions of tons of waste every year and nearly half of it ends up in landfills. Buying in bulk is a more eco-friendly way to eat, whatever you eat. Meat of any sort also carries a high impact, as foods like beef require a great deal of resources to produce. The water, land, feed and fuel costs of meat consumption are much higher than a vegetarian or vegan diet.
