The most dangerous chemical in smog is ground-level ozone, mainly because it makes up approximately 90% of smog. Other chemicals include nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, acidic aerosols and gases, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter, which are found in much smaller quanities.
I would think that the particulate matter within the smog is the most dangerous. PM is very small solid or liquid particles emitted from any activity that burns materials or generates dust. These particles can be very fine and travel deep into your lungs.
