When it comes to gardens, or non-commercial plots of lands with a variety of plants and vegetables, then community gardens would probably take the cake as far as size goes. Many can be very extensive. I’m not sure what the largest one is. In Chicago, the largest “community garden devoted to growing edibles” contains 157 raised-bed gardens. Sadly, what was once the largest community garden in the United States was turned into soccer fields in 2006. Called the South Central Farm and located in Los Angeles, it took up 14 acres and sustained dozens of families.
