The record for largest-known halibut caught was accomplished by two Norwegian fisherman, near Stiegen, Nordland County. The specimen weighed approximately 466 pounds (211.5 kilograms), and measured 8.8 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. Atlantic halibut are the largest members of the flatfish family, and the Norwegian coast is known as an abundant source of good-sized halibut.
