Last month, the World Bank announced a program to place value on natural resources in the same manner as GDP, with the hope that coral reefs, rain forests and wetlands will benefit from this consideration. As of now, this plan is merely a five-year pilot project, with India and Mexico as the primary backers, and the primary aim is to include biological diversity into national development plans. The scheme is a direct response to the 2020 goal to drastically mend the damage caused from deforestation, pollution, over-hunting and climate change.
