No one i quiet sure what will happen. I stumbled upon one article that claims that water would have to be piped in from somewhere else (which it already is from the Colorado River). This would result in “water fees” being charged to many of the citizens. It is predicted that growth in the area will be close to zero if water becomes too expensive and tough water restrictions would become the norm.
Another scenario is that very strict water regulation and restrictions would be put into place for communities that are heavy water users (such as the cities of southern california and the agricultural regions of the central valley). Policies such as rationing and much higher prices may become the norm. Different methods of obtaining water might also be implemented, such as waste water recycling, desalination, and more efficient agricultural irrigation methods such as drip irrigation.
