Ocean acidification is the process where the ocean decreases in pH. A low pH level can negatively impact the early stages of a lot of marine species such as coral. There are many articles that describe the importance of coral and its role in the marine environment. Long term, this can start to mess up all oxygen consumption and other important roles in the early stages of life. There are many other effects that a lower pH level would have.
A long term effect of ocean acidification would no doubt be negative effects on marine life. In addition to coral reef, ocean acidicfication can hurt phytoplankton- microscopic organisms. These tiny creatures are the building blocks of many, many creatures’ diets. If the number of the phytoplankton population shrinks, so do many animals’ populations.
