There were a number of important signs of climate change that happened in 2010, beginning with temperature—2010 is tied with 2005 as statistically the hottest year on record for the entire planet. In addition to rising temperatures, more rain fell in 2010 than any other recorded year, causing major flooding. Scientists believe the heavy rainfall is a symptom of climate change, and predict that patterns of short, heavy rainfall will become more common in some areas while chronic drought persists in others. Larger hurricanes, such as those that made an appearance during the especially active 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, are also believed to be a climate change symptom.
