Last year a group of protestors camping at the Kingsnorth power station were treated to airport-style security checks, sleep-disrupting loud music, and confiscation of personal property. The official reason these protestors were treated so harshly is that in light of what has happened in the world since 9/11, events such as these are being treated as potential terrorism/sabotage. The potential of protestors breaking into and shutting down the power station prompted the police action. In contrast, a peaceful protest was held recently at the power station, with 1000 people marching to the site and then forming a human ring around the station. No reports of clashes with police or arrests were made.
